Goodbye 2014

It's impossible to keep up with every new album that comes out. I know that I missed some really good stuff, and I look forward to catching up. I've heard great stuff about FKA twigs, Swans, War on Drugs, White Lung, and the new Beck record.

I feel like I'm always trying to catch up on amazing new music. I just recently got into Deap Valley and Cage The Elephant's 2013 albums. I dig them a lot. I just missed them last year.

The following is my annual Top 10 Albums list. The list is based on what I bought and listened to the most. Enjoy!

My Top 10 Albums of 2014

1. Spoon – They Want My Soul
2. Alvvays – Alvvays
3. Jack White - Lazaretto
4. The Black Keys – Turn Blue
5. Leonard Cohen – Popular Problems
6. Chuck E. Weiss – Red Bean and Weiss
7. Nikki Lane – All or Nothin'
8. Pixies - Indie Cindy
9. Tom Petty – Hypnotic Eyes
10. Ryan Adams – Ryan Adams

Honorable Mentions: Ty Segall – Manipulator
&
Perfect Pussy – Say Yes To Love

As an added bonus I've decided to do my Top 5 Movies of 2014 list

1. Only Lovers Left Alive
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
3. The Fault In Our Stars
4. Big Hero 6
5. The Grand Budapest Hotel

Honorable Mention: Dom Hemmingway

I didn't get to see many movies this year, but all of these make my list of all-time favorites.

Boyhood, St. Vincent, Stranger by the Lake, Nightcrawler, and Birdman might have made this a Top 10 list, if I had seen them. They all look very good, and I can't wait to see Inherent Vice.

I'm going to see the new Hobbit movie this weekend. We all know it'll be good. It doesn't even need to be on a list.

Writing News: I'm still waiting on an official release date for the Vincennes Writers Group anthology. There isn't much else to report. It has been an off year, but I look to have a few announcements early next year.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!

Thanks for reading!

Nothing New

It has been too long since I've posted anything here. I've been busy working on several things. My focus was on trying to get a job writing for television, but that didn't work out.

I took the bad news pretty hard. It was very disappointing. It even made me avoid writing for a little bit, but I bounced back and start working on my next novel.

The novel was planned to have an October release date, but after I put so much time into my TV specs and feeling down after that fell through, I pushed the book back to December. I could have hit the deadline to release it at the end of the year. I just didn't want to rush it. I also didn't want to put something out that my heart wasn't into.

I've decided NOT to release a book in 2014.

This is the first year, since I started writing, that I will not be putting something out. It's upsetting, but I need more time. I also need more focus.

I need to completely change my focus. This means taking things back to square one. The only way to do that is to work on new short stories, and by submitting my writing to some lit journals, magazines, and contests again.

This isn't really news to anyone who follows me on social media, but I wanted to post it here too. I'm excited about this change of focus. It should be good for me.

At this time there are no dates set for future Mr. Bad Example signings. I have a couple places that I'd like to visit, but nothing solid.

I am currently hard at work on a few projects. I will announce more about these projects, when they are finished. There are a lot of cool things going on. I'm excited about everything I'm working on. I hope to have some major announcements soon.

 Stay tuned!

Another List

I recently outed myself on the Books and Booze podcast, about being a lover of romantic comedies. When I was put on the spot, I could only think of a few I liked. I tried to look through my DVDs, but it wasn't easy. I keep them shoved in the back.

I do enjoy a good romantic comedy. I wouldn't consider any of them my favorite movies, but I still like to watch them. I've even made a list of the the ones I like best.

Here are just a few of my favorites:

Definitely, Maybe
Wristcutters: A Love Story
HappyThankYouMorePlease
Love Actually
Serendipity
Sweet November
Benny and Joon
The Notebook
Nights in Rodanthe
P.S. I Love You
10  Things I hate About You
French Kiss
Say Anything...
High Fidelity
Grosse Point Blank
Sixteen Candles
Romancing The Stone
When Harry Met Sally
The Proposal
Groundhog Day
About A Boy
Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind
Easy A
Love And Other Drugs
Zack and Miri Make  A Porno
Knocked Up
Chasing Amy
Jersey Girl
The Holiday
Garden State
The Break Up
It's Complicated
Nick And Nora's Infinite Playlist
How To Lose Friends and Alienate People
Sideways
It's Kind Of A Funny Story
Down With Love
&
Chacolat

I know I forgot some of my favorites, but you get the idea. I didn't include details about the movies, or trailers for anything. Look them up. See what sounds good, and give them a chance, if you haven't already.

Some people may be thinking that some of these are not romantic comedies. I agree. I still like them, and according to the lists I found and IMDB they are. That's good enough for me.

If you missed my interview with Books and Booze, you can listen to it here.

Enjoy!

Making 2014 My Year

A lot of things have happened since my last post. This is just a quick update to highlight my trip to The River City Festival of Films. I've included some pictures. If each of these pictures are each worth a thousand words, it still doesn't do the event justice. It was a great show and meeting Peter Weller (Naked Lunch) was incredible.

He was such a kind and interesting person.

It's safe to say that the entire event was a success. Everyone had a good time, money was raised for several charities, and I personally did well at this show. I sold a bunch of books and a couple copies of The Collective Vol. 6, featuring our short, Trepidation.

Here's a little bit of what the show was like.

Make plans to be in Evansville April 4th & 5th!
The Next show I'll be doing together is POP!CON in Evansville, Indiana.

I hope to have some more updates and announcements soon. I've been very busy working on some scripts, new stories, and a new novel. I like to stay busy.

This is going to be an exciting year!
