Time Well Spent

I would have to say Nashville Comic and Horror Fest 2009 was a success. Several people picked up a copy of Forrest J Ackerman's Anthology of the Living Dead, I had a chance to watch roller derby and see old friends.

The show kicked off Saturday morning with a good vibe and good people. It didn't seem like a lot of folks were there to buy stuff, as much as they were to look around and see what was going on. This gave many of the guest a chance to do the same. Many of us talk (or bought stuff we didn't need) and even made a few new friends.

Saturday night included Nashville Rollergirls action. This was my first live derby bout experience. I have watched a lot of stuff on the internet and I loved the old Roller Jam show, but now I have a better understanding and maybe even a new obsession. I'm very excited to see more live derby and the Ellen Page, Drew Berrymore movie, Whip It. I wanted to see the movie based on the people involved, but now I can't wait. I may even find a way to work my love of derby into a story or two.

Another great part of this trip was that I got to see good friends like Justin Brock Jones, Joel Robinson, Brian O'Halloran, Jason Craig, and Robert Freese. I have posted several new picture of the trip on my MySpace page, including several folks with their copy of Forrest J Ackerman's Anthology of the Living Dead.

I also had the chance to meet Bryan Smith and have him sign my copy of Depraved. He was a very nice guy and I look forward to reading more of his work. I just hope he enjoys his copy of the Anthology he got.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something awesome that happened, but I will do my best to keep everyone posted on future signings and events. For now, it is time to get ready for Nation Novel Writers Month.

NaNoWriMo is where authors and writers from all over the globe agree to try to finish one novel during the month of November. All authors have from the 1st to the 30th of the month to write as much as possible, and hopefully finish a book. I am already signed up and almost ready to go...wish me luck!!!
